Draft Submission
For the draft submission, I can only send in a pilot (trailer) for now, as we have only filmed the Jack scenes. However, we have recasted every character just last week, and we've come up with a schedule to finish filming by the end of next week, and I'll have a proper finished draft by next Friday.

However, please note that it has not been colorgraded and all the sound effects are temporary. I have a sound designer/composer who will do the music for the film once it has been finished.
Also the name has now been changed to Discordance, as it means a clash between two ideas; aka tradition vs contemporary.

CNY ended
Our proposed goal of having finished production by the end of Chinese New Year has not come to fruition. We have yet to find another main actor for Jack to be cast in such short notice.

Script v2
We completely overhauled the story in order to make it not a straight up horror film, instead to have the focus more on Jack's descent into depression, because he feels like he betrayed his family. I have also changed the title from The Mask to Tradition. I'm not too keen on this title either however, but I'll keep it for now as a temporary working title.

Also a little bit of crisis, as the main actor had to pull out from the film due to strains on his own graduation thesis in HKU. May have to change our filming date due to this. We've also started making tweaks to the new script (pic related).

Completed Script

The plan now is to finish filming by the end of Chinese New Year.
We've also gone hunting for Cantonese Opera masks. I've gone to Stanley Market, but no luck there, so I hit Central by chance and stumbled upon Costume Street. There I found the mask.
For only $38 as well. Still have about $4000 for our budget.
After finding the mask, we immediately went to work with it. We got 2 masks. One for the earlier scenes, still dirty looking but not that dirty. The other would be for the later scenes, much dirtier than the first one, to imply that it has been neglected by Jack.

Beginning
Story
Jack Wan, the son of a prestigious Cantonese Opera clan, decides to move out so that he can establish his own career as an EDM/Hip Hop artist. When he leaves his family, although a rough farewell, gives him a parting gift. An old family heirloom, a Cantonese opera mask that's been passed down generation to generation. After several days, Jack notices that the mask has caused him some unsettling vibes in his house and neglects it... which only makes the problem worse.
Themes
The theme of the film is family and tradition vs contemporary. The mask is the symbolization of these two themes. Jack left his home to create his own art away from tradition: hip hop. In a city where you can be in an old Hakka village, then in the bustling center or Central within minutes, I felt that this was a theme that would impact the Hong Kong people, as it is something that I felt as I grew up in this city.
Goals
Through this film, I want to create an atmospheric horror film. In Hollywood, and even Hong Kong horror films, the genre is now defined by cheap jump scares and strays away from the classic horror films that used the atmosphere to instill the horror, such as The Haunting (1963).
